PHOTOS: A Day in the Life of a Port of Long Beach Truck Driver


For the last few months our entire newsroom, except the sports department, has been working on a magazine to commemorate the 100th. anniversary of the Port of Long Beach. The 100-page, full-glossy, publication will be in tomorrow’s home delivered newspaper. For this story I spent the day with Tony Melendez, a truck owner/operator. The pay isn’t great, and the trucks are expensive – but he says he likes that he sets his own hours and works close to the new house he just purchased. See more pictures>>

PHOTOS: Another Protest for Douglas Zerby


LONG BEACH, CALIF. USA — Elle Hackett, 17, shouts protest chants during a protest against the unarmed shooting of Douglas Zerby at Bixby Park in Long Beach, Calif. on February 12, 2011. Zerby was killed by police in December 2010 when uniformed officers were responding to an emergency call about a man wielding a gun in the Belmont Shore neighborhood of Long Beach, Calif.
